Field School in Non-Invasive Methods in Landscape Archaeology

Theoretical introduction and practical course on non-invasive and remote sensing methods in landscape archaeology, aimed at students in their first years of a BA in archaeology. The course will be held in Vršac (Serbia) between 21st and 20th of July, 2026. The course is directed by Prof. Predrag Novaković, University of Ljubljana.
Participants will receive 3 ECTS points. Certificates will be issued by the University of Belgrade. The course will be taught in English, and in Serbian, Croatian and Slovene (as assisting languages).
Teaching topics:
- systematic surface and sub-surface surveys
- aerial archaeology
- LIDAR
- geophysics
- preliminary processing of finds
- field report and data archives
- one-day excursion (Lepenski vir, Viminacium, Vinča)

Additional information
1. Accommodation for all participants will be at Apartments 135 in Vršac (airconditioned rooms with 2-3 beds). Meals will be ordered daily from the take-away restaurant.
2. Necessary or recommended personal equipment:
- small notebook + pencils, ball-point pens etc.
- appropriate field shoes and long trousers
- work gloves
- sun protection (caps, hats, sun block )
- protection against mosquitos (recommended)
- personal hygiene kit
- water bottle
- European Health Insurance card (for mobility students only)
- personal documents (identity cards, passports)
